Botanical name: Curcuma rubescens    Family: Zingiberaceae (Ginger family)
Synonyms: Curcuma rubricaulis, Curcuma longiflora

Ruby Ginger is a beautiful ginger with stems that are reddish purple in color. Flowers are borne in an upright spike, 12-15 cm long, 5 cm in diameter, consisting of overlapping, pale pink, rather rounded bracts, with small yellow flowers peeping out of them. The flowers protrude beyond the bracts, lip 1.2 cm in diameter, notched at tip. The leafy plant is 4-5 ft tall, and the leaves are 1-2 feet long, 12-15 cm broad, oblong. Leaf-stalk is red-brown. Tubers are stalkless, white inside. Ruby Ginger is found NE India, Bengal to Myanmar.
